Relief Work for Odisha Cyclone & Flood
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Because of nature's fury, Odisha is severely affected by the Phailin
followed by 5 days heavy rain. In the cyclone Phailin large number of
villages were affected and a number people were homeless. After that a
number of districts like Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Puri, Khurda,
Nayagarh, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Balasore, Bhadrak and
Mayurbhanj are affected by flood. Over 5.32 lakh people in 2,276
villages were affected by the floods. Total, 1.23 crore people are
affected by the cyclone and flood and the number of disaster hit
villages is 18,117 in 17 districts.
Due to largest evacuation,
many lives have been saved, but more efforts need to be taken to bring
back the life to normal form. Though the Govt and some NGOs initiated
the relief work, It is our minimum social concern to help the our Odia brother & sisters as much as possible.
For this purpose, money, cloths, unused medicines were collected within the campus from 27th Oct 2013 to 31st Oct 2013.
Total Rs 56,287.00 was collected
Some relief materials viz mosquito nets, candles, matches and some old cloths collected from IIT Kgp campus were distributed to nearly 250 cyclone affected families of village

Chatrapur Block), GANJAM district by a relief team from IIT , Kharagpur
